Cat Dementia
As feline companions live longer lives, vets and pet owners must regularly assist cats with age-related difficulties and disorders.
Cognitive dysfunction syndrome (CDS) is one such disorder that is directly tied to a cat's brain aging.
It eventually leads to alterations in awareness, deficiencies in learning and memory, and decreased response to stimuli, and is usually referred to as cat dementia.
Whereas the symptoms of feline dementia are minor at first, they steadily increase with time, a process known as "cognitive decline."
Because cognitive dysfunction syndrome is a slow-onset condition, the most common symptoms you'll notice are behavioral.
When cats reach the age of ten years or older, these behavioral indicators of dementia become more visible.
Such symptoms include excessive irritability, anxiety, lack of self-grooming, confusion, sleep cycle alterations and increased vocalization.
